News: New Engine Storage Technology
AnnounceAfter attending the “Joe Gibbs Driven Oil” seminar last week, I felt over-whelmed with technical info about all types of oils, from off the shelf Wal-Mart product to the best of the best racing oils, we learned about everything and what it all means. It’s taken a while to absorb all this info, and turn it into usable, helpful knowledge to share with everyone.
We learned about the TRUE meaning of Viscosity’s and the relation between viscosity, wear, heat, and what to expect under different conditions. We learned about what each level of oil was first designed to do, (within Joe Gibbs Racing), and testimonials from other race teams and sanctions with their findings and reasons they run JGR oils. I’m not going to make this a lengthy post about every technical mumble jumble we learned about, but I will make this statement, ‘JGR oils are the best racing formulated engine oil available to the Canadian market’. If you need more Technical info, and are serious about trying it out, give me a call at AMS Engines 780-454-4411, or stop in, you can talk to anybody from AMS about this topic, because EVERY employee was in attendance for the seminar.

Now, what does this all have to do with, New Engine Storage Technology?
Although brief, the seminar did touch on the topic of their latest introduction, the ‘Hot Rod’ oils. We, (AMS Engines), have had inventory on this product since the spring, and honestly, we we’re selling it as a ‘Street Use’ oil for non catalytic vehicles, such as your ‘Street Rod, Muscle Car, Pleasure Boat’, etc. We weren’t wrong about these applications, but we didn’t have the whole story behind the development. It is true that the ‘Hot Rod’ oil was developed for the non catalytic street use market. It’s also true that it has all the same great qualities in it derived from the ‘Racing Oils’, only with some variations to make it more versatile for the harsh conditions ‘Street Use’ can endure. However, one key element that JGR put into this new oil is what I’m all excited about. They developed a formula of synthetic oil that has all their branded properties: quicker warm up times, proper and efficient viscosity, cleaning agents & detergents that only break down dirt and grime – not oil, proper bonding elements for metal surfaces, and here’s the best part. Within the bonding elements of the oil, they developed a formula too actually protect from rust and corrosion. They developed this extra part for the car collectors (Joe Gibbs, Tony Stewart, etc) so that they can throw this oil in their street car, splash it around for a while, then let the car sit for an infinite period of time, and not have to worry about rust or corrosion, or dry start up. All oils bond to metals, it’s whether the oil STICKS to the metal over long periods of time or not that is the difference. MOST other oils will bleed down into the pan, and not be very forgiving come spring start up. Ring/Cylinder wall wear, and bearing wear are the big concerns. With this new formula, they got a bonus feature. The same property that is enhancing the ‘Clinging’ element, also extracts the water away from the metals, keeping it away from the very thing it can harm. Here, in Canada though, we have a different condition then North Carolina, called winter. When we store our Race engines for the winter, they all go through a huge fluctuation in temperature control. Whether you store in your heated garage, or in your trailer, our winters produce huge fluctuations that cause high degrees of precipitation/condensation…it’s unavoidable. But if we were to change out our Race oil, and throw in enough ‘Hot Rod’ oil to splash around the engine, there should be no worry’s in the spring. Here is the coolest part, why not recycle it? In the spring, drain the ‘Hot Rod’ oil out, separate the water off of it, throw it into a container, and use it again next winter! For an average investment of $50.00 or so up front, you could potentially keep using it forever, providing you keep the filter and the oil in it as well. If you don’t, it’ll cost you a filter and a quart of oil every year. It’s a pretty cheap investment for a multi-thousand dollar engine and your own peace of mind.
So after the last race this season, before you back your rockers off and drain the cooling system; give your Race Engine one last oil change that should pay for itself in the future. As a Machine Shop employee, preventative maintenance is a key factor for long engine life. As a racer, it’s inexpensive and easy to do, why wouldn’t you?
